This week I was lucky enough to go and work for Innocent, at Fruit Towers, which is definitely the coolest office I have ever <del>worked in</del> seen. It was like a cross between a Google office and an organic farm, with faux grass instead of carpet, fridges full of their products, a very well stocked kitchen and canteen complete with pub benches. In my short stay at Fruit Towers, there was a lunchtime BBQ, a loud speaker announced visit from an Italian Gelato parlor and cold beers being brought around on Friday afternoon amongst many other cool happenings.

I really enjoyed working at Innocent, the people were lovely and made me feel very welcome and the office was a lot fun to work in.

Stuart Ross Sheeran, Head of Design, and I having breakfast at Innocent.

Most of the work I did for Innocent was fairly straight forward HTML/CSS. I created a new landing page for their products and a couple other templates for the new range that was about to be released.

On Saturday 15th October protesters, inspired by the Occupy Wall Street movement, gathered outside the Reserve Bank of Australia, in Martin Place.

They plan to camp out indefinitely, in the Sydney Central Business District, in an attempt to raise awareness and the support of the 99% of the population and to reclaim the power currently held by the super-rich 1% individuals and corporations. The idea that well being should be put before corporate greed is at the core of their cause.

I personally have been following the movement in New York, where a group of protesters have been (and still are) camping Wall Street since mid September. As I my hotel was a couple blocks away from where the protest was to be held, I thought I would go along, show some support and at least get some photos.

The protest seemed to be quite well organised, they had a PA system and you could tell that for a large majority of the people, this was by no means their first protest. The problem seemed to be that everyone had their own agenda and was just using the movement as leverage for their own socialist ideals. This was a shame because it diluted what is, in fact, quite an important message; the system is broken.

Based in New York Naya Express offer the experience of Lebanese cuisine in an accessible and fun way.

I love the artwork on this site, which made developing it very enjoyable. I think the imagery on each page works really well to create an interesting website for an exciting company.

I actually developed the website about half a year ago but, for a reason unknown to me, it has just been sitting there waiting to be put live.

Naya Express Home Page

It was nice to see the website go live after just sitting there for so long, and I shall definitely be paying them a visit next time I am in New York.

Naya Express Menu

The designer was very specific about the way the scroll bar looked on the menu page, so I implemented a custom scrollbar using a nifty bit of JavaScript. This allowed me to use a custom image as the scroller and stay true to the design. I think it turned out really well and the client was definitely happy.

The gallery

The gallery page turned out really nice, in my opinion. The images fit perfectly into the website border and slide under the logo, giving it a seamless look.

Contact page

As I said before, I really liked the artwork on the website and my favorite thing had to be the map of New York on the contact page. The site was designed by DK Creatives and I developed it for Wirebox.

Bloc Direct are a catering company, situated just outside of North London, who offer great food, great service and a discount if you are a selfless NHS worker.

Designed by The Creative Place, commissioned by Wirebox and developed by me the project was a great success. The designer was kind enough to keep all the fonts web-friendly, which always makes my life easier and, of course, is easily read by search engines.

Bloc Direct Home Page

Bloc Direct breakfast menu

I used jQuery to randomly pop up speech bubbles with testimonials from previous happy clients. I’m not usually a fan of putting testimonials on a website but I thought that this was a nice way of doing it as well as adding a bit of life to the page.

Bloc Direct Enquiry Form
