At ClickView we use Slack a lot but we also drink a lot of tea. So we wrote our own Slack app to distribute who makes tea for the team.

You can start a ‘tea time’ using the /teatime tea command, which will notifiy everyone else that you want tea.

Once everyone has joined, run /teatime end TeaTime Bot will randomly pick someone to make the team tea, give them the the order including tea preference.

Sometimes you lose badly…

Or if you’re an intern you need to learn how everyone takes their tea.

I just finished reading Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker.

I picked up this book at Heathrow Airport and proceeded to start reading it as I boarded the QF2, a 23 hour flight from London to Sydney.

This book outlines why sleep is so important to us as human beings and what a deteriorative affect a lack of sleep has on the human brain.

Now, I don’t sleep very well (if at all) on flights but this time was worse. I was now hyper-aware of all the terrible things I was doing to my body as I travelled through timezones in a sleep deprived state!

I’ve heard it said to the point of cliche, but this book does change your life.

Historically I have been a night owl and an early-riser, which doesn’t take a genius to figure out that equates to very little sleep.

Since reading Why We Sleep, I have started ensuring that I get at least 7 hours a night and 8 if I can help it.

I really can’t recommend reading this book enough!

We are still in the infancy of podcasting.

I was listening to Jack Dorsey talk about how Odeo failed because there was too much competition at the time, namely from Itunes.

Tim Ferriss also mentioned when he started out he thought it was too late to get into podcasting. The Tim Ferris Show has since become one of the most popular podcasts.

But we’re still yet to see anywhere near the full potential of podcasts.

Niche

Podcasts will become so niche that whatever obscure interest you will be able to find a few podcasts dedicated to that topic.

Let’s imagine you’re interested in growing vegetables, specifically cucumbers, specifically heirloom cucumbers. You will have your choice of podcast on the matter - that’s how niche podcasts will become.

Entertainment

These niche podcasts will not remain audio for very long.

We’ll begin to see more and more video podcasts designed to be watched on mobile in 9:16.

There will be many popular series made up of short episodes released once a day or once a week.

Netflix, YouTube, Disney and other large media companies will produce original series in this format.

As the landscape becomes more and more fragmented, these large companies will start acquiring popular one-person shows to stay relevant.

Advertising dollars will follow eyeballs.

We spent the Australia Day weekend with some friends in the Hunter Valley, which was oddly quiet for a public holiday weekend.

It was a lovely weekend and we bought some great wine.

Welcome to my new blog.

I think I have finally found something that fits my blogging style a little more. Unfortunately I don’t have the time to write long form, well researched articles but I would still like to write shorter posts about things I notice and thoughts I have on tech, business, product, recipes and hip-hop.

I have always tried to consistently write for a blog, but due to the very limited amount of time I have, I’ve never been able to commit.

I recently listened to Seth Godin talk on Tim Ferris’ show and it reminded me of his blogging style, which is a short thought each day.

This is much more achievable for me, fits better with my lifestyle and is more realistic for the time I am able to commit to it.

Let’s see how we go!
